    CMS Sets ICD-10 Implementation Date

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services announced its Final Rule that they will delay the adoption of ICD-10 for one year from October 1, 2013 to October 1, 2014.  At that time all covered entities, which includes physician medical practices must comply with the International Classification of Diseases, 10th Edition which is known as ICD-10.

This postponement will allow providers and insurance companies more time to get ready for this major transition from ICD-9, which has about 17,000 diagnosis codes, to ICD-10 which has almost 140,000 codes.

Capture Billing wrote an article, ICD-10 is Coming, Will Your Medical Billing Department Be Ready?, which has a bit more information on getting ready for ICD-10.

SAN FRANCISCO- August 8, 2012Practice Fusion, the nation’s largest doctor-patient community, has hit several significant milestones this year. Expected to reach 200 employees in its San Francisco headquarters this month, the company supports 150,000 medical practitioners serving 50 million patients nationwide. One in four doctors selecting an EHR today chooses Practice Fusion, which is reflected by the 49 percent increase in its users since August 2011. This growth confirms the urgent need for free, accessible and secure EHR systems for the nation’s physicians—particularly those in small practices.

“We’re democratizing access to EHR technology for physicians. The faster we grow, the more doctors we can help—and the more lives they can save,” said Ryan Howard, CEO of Practice Fusion. “This year is especially important for doctors seeking Meaningful Use, and we expect that our momentum is only going to build through the end of this year and into 2013.”

The process of fully implementing the software and patient information into the cloud was completed in approximately two weeks.

“Once we evaluated our options and cost comparisons, it was an easy decision to have our BioMedix practice management software hosted with ClearDATA rather than running it on computers within our offices,” said Dr. Serrina M. Yozsa, DPM, of Talus Foot Surgeons, LLC.  “We eliminated the expense of having to purchase new servers, as well as the usual IT support and maintenance costs. Best of all, we now have great peace of mind knowing our system is running with total reliability, our patient data is secure, and our practice is meeting HIPAA security requirements.”

In early 2012, Dr. Yozsa decided to switch from an older practice management solution to BioMedix TRAKnet, which was certified by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC), and would allow them to achieve Meaningful Use.
